Jandamarra - freedom fighter

Jandamarra was a Bunuba man from the Kimberley area.

He was a black tracker who helped capture Aboriginal people who stole sheep and cattle. Jandamarra was a good horse man and good with guns. He was an excellent tracker. Jandamarra was convinced by the Aboriginal people who were caught stealing sheep to let them go. This was the beginning of the Guerilla War.

The police could not catch Janadamarra so the government sent more troopers in. The police had believed that he had deadly powers like a mapuman. It took ten years to catch Jandamarra and his gang. At Six Mile Creek Jandamarra ambushed the police but was badly wounded. The police tracked him down and shot him at the back of Tunnel Creek.
