| What
a life 'Romany'!!
The problem of the children working and leaving the education in an early age is an important problem that deserves to be thought of and these children have to encouraged to think of the education once more. For this reason we went on the 25th of March 2002 to discover their life so that we could understand the real reason for the appearing of this phenomenon. The boy we went to see as a young boy called ROMANY. He is 11 years old; he works as a mechanic helper and he is very pleased with it as it is very easy. He has been working for 5 months in this job and he takes 5 pounds daily as a salary (150 pounds monthly) which he spends in nothing except a child's needs like food (Pepsi, crisps.....). His ideal person is his master as he treats him very kindly almost like his child, he wishes to be a mechanic like his employer. Romany spends his day by waking up at 8 o'clock in the morning . He spends all his day working; he finishes his work at 9 clock in the evening; then he returns home . Romany takes one day off a week; he also spends learning about his job as he is still a new mechanic helper . Of course by this way Romany has no opportunity to enjoy himself in any day of the week or to have any entertainment. Romany is living in Cairo with one of his 8 brothers to work; to be responsible for himself as his parents are living in upper Egypt; they come to visit him in Cairo; as Romany's parents don't work at all, so he; his brothers have to work to be responsible for themselves; this was the reason for Romany to work in an early age; can't be educated. About Romany's education: he wasn't educated at all; he doesn't have the idea of being educated as he doesn't know the value of education, he also doesn't wish to be educated in the future, he also doesn't wish to educate his children when he grows up except if they wished but this indicates that what had happened with Romany as his parents didn't encourage him to be educated. And we gained that this problem would be repeated again with his children. What a life 'Romany'!! Hend Khaled |
