In the Civics forum we have started this discussion on fire crackers. We need to know if any one working on the child labour project knows if these crackers are made by the child labourers in India?
If yes, could you tell me the sites, if you have done research and know them.
I am totally against burning fire crackers.
1) They pollute the air and the ecology is hindered. Is it possible to make these crackers non polluting? I remember when we celebrate Diwali in India - which is a festival of lights and crackers are burnt, the whole atmosphere is covered with smoke. It gives me a headache when I go out of my home during those days.
2) Noise pollution also is one of the harmful cases .... Can anything be done for this?
3) Which is the most important one I don't know how far is is true but I have heard that these crackers are made by child labourers. We should not burn them.
I have also hard and read in the paper that these children get injured while making these crackers. They burn their hands, legs and eyes. What can we do to make a difference? I think we need to first really find out if this is true. I don't know how we are going to do this. Maybe get in touch with the child labours forum and also organisations working for child labours.
We should make people aware about this in the schools with the help of pamphlets, posters... etc
Let us also see what happens if we don't burn crackers? How bad is it going to be if we don't burn them? Why not spend that money on books or something worth while.
I know all of us including me even I like to see crackers in the sky; it looks very pretty but we need to start thinking about what will happen if we keep burning these crackers???
What do you all say? I am really keen on hearing your thoughts. And doing some action.
Bye,
